COLOR TABLETS

The Color Tablets are a sensorial material. The work gives the child the opportunity to explore shades of color from darkest to lightest. The material builds the skill of grading items by color while building concentration and eye-hand coordination.

1. Choose one set of primary color tablets and remove them from the box, and place them on the rug.

2. Locate the darkest color tablet in this set and place it to the left side of the rug under the box. Locate the lightest tablet in this set and notice the contrast. Place the lightest color tablet to the right side of the rug.

3. Scan the remaining tablets in this set and locate the next darkest; place it just to the right of the darkest tablet. Continue this process, grading the remaining tablets from darkest to lightest horizontally across the rug.

4. Now choose another set of primary color tablets and remove them from the box, and place them on the rug. Continue the process as before, grading the colors and placing them from darkest to lightest horizontally across the rug.

5. Continue to remove sets of color tablets from the box, one set at a time moving from primary colors to the secondary colors. Each time you will place the tablets, darkest to lightest horizontally on the rug.

6. Once you finish the primary and secondary sets, you may choose to do the other sets in order of choice.

7. Once each set has been graded, darkest to lightest on the rug pause to notice the colors, the different shades and the beauty of the variety of colors.

8. You may now place the sets one at a time back into the box, placing them in random order of shades as you put them in their space in the box.

An extension work the child can do is to paint their shades darkest to lightest. They could also take the tablets to match to colors in the classroom.
