On that note, I moved into Lower Elementary where the class sat circled on the carpet fully engaged in a survey. Apparently there was some concern about how much time was being spent on free reading and how to best balance that with the rest of the expectations of being an LE student. After a minute it became clear that the options they were considering were options they had offered up as possible solutions, prior to my arrival. This carried on until they calculated responses and made a plan to give the winning option, "more challenging work equals more reading time" a test run.
I'm super thankful for the opportunities our students have to interact, share their thoughts, their opinions, and their life experiences with one another......and with ME!
