Nurturing and guiding the whole child to become an independent, responsible learner.
A consistent goal in all three programs at Oak Grove Montessori is to offer carefully prepared environments that promote exploration and allow each child to discover a love of learning. Maria Montessori’s insights into child development have taught us that children have within them a natural urge to discover, explore, and learn. In authentic, multi-age classrooms, children use Montessori designed materials along with teacher made extensions designed to develop skills in the areas of Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math and Cultural.

In comparison to traditional methods, Montessori classrooms utilize hands-on materials, specifically designed to stimulate multiple senses in a single work. As the child repeats the lesson, they strengthen their ability to conceptualize the skill prior to being exposed to it in an abstract form such as a textbook, or worksheet. Lessons are presented in a sequential method to either an individual child, or a small group, allowing each child the freedom to move, individually, at a rate dictated by the child’s personal development versus a prescribed formula.
Considering this approach, it is critical to have ample exposure and experience with the materials in the Primary program prior to moving into the Elementary program. At Oak Grove, we require each candidate for the Elementary program to have completed a minimum of one year in our Primary program.
